We cordially invite ceramic artists from around the world to participate in the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale 2026.

The Korea Ceramic Foundation welcomes creative and experimental works that embody the unique identity and spirit of ceramic art, reflect contemporary trends, and propose a forward-looking vision for its future. The International Competition 2026 presents a distinguished platform to fully express artists’ imagination and artistic vision on the international stage. We also encourage artists to explore the full breadth of their creative potential and originality.

Overview

Types of Artworks

Artworks that use clay (ceramics) as the main material or primary theme, including:
  • Artworks that embody the unique spirit and identity of ceramic art
  • Artworks that represent contemporary trends in ceramic art
  • Artworks that propose and explore a forward-looking vision for the future of ceramic art

Eligibility

Artists who work in ceramics or ceramics-related fields and hold both the copyright and ownership of the submitted artwork are eligible to participate.

Conditions and Entry Requirements

  • Artists must submit original artworks or artworks that have not previously been awarded in other domestic or international competitions.
  • Entries that do not comply with the stated conditions shall be excluded from the judging process. If such entries are selected, the award may be revoked and the prize reclaimed.
  • Individuals may participate individually or as part of a team (a team is considered a single entrant).
  • Up to two entries per entrant
  • Artworks created on or after January 1, 2023
  • Submitted works must meet the following dimensions
  • Single-piece artworks (composed of a single component): Maximum width 1.5m × depth 2.5m × height 2.0m
  • Installation artworks (composed of two or more components): Maximum total volume of 7.5m³
  • Artworks exceeding these dimensions may not be exhibited due to venue limitations.
  • Entry Fee: None
  • Official Languages: Korean and English

Submission Method

  • Submissions are accepted online only via www.gcbcompetition.kr
  • For the second-round physical submission, entries must be submitted to Exhibition Hall 4 at the Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art on-site.

Submission Materials

  • Materials for first-round online judging
  • Application form and submission agreement
  • Artist CV (must include activities from the past five years in reverse chronological order, as well as the official names of institutions, museums, and exhibitions)
  • Artist’s note and artwork description in Korean and English (minimum 500 characters in Korean; equivalent to approx. 1,000 English characters or 250 300 words words)
  • Installation instructions (provide written details or attach a sketch file)
  • Maximum of 10 images of the artwork
    1. · Must include front, side, and detail views (minimum of 5, maximum of 10 images).
    2. · JPG format (minimum 300pixels, maximum 2MB per image)
    3. · Photos must be taken against a plain background or a natural setting.
    4. · One image must show the entire artwork with an 11cm×11cm sheet of paper (e.g., a Post- it note) temporarily attached to the artwork for scale.
    5. · Entries shall be disqualified if personal information, such as the artist’s face, body, or studio, is visible in the photos.
    6. · Video artworks and video recordings of the artwork must be uploaded as unlisted on YouTube, and the reference link section of the submission page must include the link to the video.
    7. · For artworks that include audio media, ensure that this is specified on the online submission site, upload the file as unlisted on YouTube, and include the link in the reference link section of the submission page.
  • Materials for second-round physical judging (submission of actual artworks)
  • Submission Period: June 2026 (for one month)
  • Submission Venue: Exhibition Hall 4, Gyeoggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art (entry via the rear gate)
  • Submission Method: By delivery or in person (submission hours: 10:00 AM-5:00 PM, weekdays)
  • The artist is responsible for the delivery of the artwork to the venue. However, the Korea Ceramic Foundation will handle the return shipping.
  • Submission Material:
    1. ① Physical artwork that passed first-round judging

    3. ③ Condition report of the artwork
    4. ④ Customs declaration and invoice
    5. Applicable only to overseas shipments, including artworks submitted in person by the artist.
    6. In the absence of the required documents listed above, the artist may incur higher customs duties upon export.

  • The prize money includes taxes.
  • The prize money is based on the exchange rate at the time of payment. For awardees of Korean nationality and those from countries without a tax treaty with Korea, the amount paid shall be the prize money after tax deductions.
  • The organizers shall hold the copyright for exhibition setup, photography, video recording, judging, and catalog production of the award-winning artworks.
  • If the artist opts not to receive the prize money, the award will still be recognized, and the artwork shall be returned to the artist after the exhibition.
  • The above award details may be subject to change at the discretion of the organizers and judging committee.
  • A maximum of five video artwork entries shall be selected.

Judging and Results Announcement

  • First-round online judging
  • Purpose: To select award-winning artworks from those submitted online for the international competition
  • Judging period: March 4, 2026 (Wednesday) – March 24, 2026 (Tuesday)
  • First-round selections announcement: March 27, 2026 (Friday)
  • The announcement shall be made on the Korea Ceramic Foundation, Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, and Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale websites, as well as through individual email notifications to awardees.
  • Second-round physical judging
  • Purpose: To select the top 14 award-winning artworks from those that passed first-round online judging
  • Judging period: July 21, 2026 (Tuesday) – July 23, 2026 (Thursday)
  • Winner announcement: July 30, 2026 (Thursday)

Award Ceremony and Exhibition

  • Awards Ceremony : Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale Opening Ceremony
  • Exhibition Period : September 2026 – February 2027 (tentative)
  • Exhibition Venue : Exhibition Halls 1 and 4, Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art

Packaging and shipping of artworks

  • For the submission of physical artworks, the artist is responsible for packing and delivery. The organizers will cover the costs of display setup, repacking, and return shipping of the artworks.
  • The artist must securely package the submitted artworks to prevent potential damage during transportation and is required to complete a condition report to verify and document the state of the artwork prior to transport. The organizers are not liable for any damage that occurs before the artwork is inspected (condition check) upon arrival.
  • The customs declaration and invoice must be submitted to the organizers upon arrival of the artworks. If the artworks are not shipped through a professional art logistics company and result in the absence of customs declarations and invoices, additional fees such as customs clearance charges and transportation costs (from customs to the submission venue) may arise, and these costs shall be the responsibility of the artist.
  • Artworks shall be returned after the exhibition closes (after February 2027), and the organizers shall not be held responsible for any failure to receive the artworks if the artist is unavailable.

Insurance of the artworks

  • The insurance coverage for artworks submitted for on-site judging will become effective on the day the condition of the artworks is inspected by the organizers after the artworks arrive at the submission venue (Exhibition Hall 4, Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art). If insurance is required for the artworks during the period from the shipping date to the completion of submission, the artist shall be responsible for arranging it and covering the associated costs.
  • The artist must specify the sale price (insurance value) of the submitted artwork in the artwork description. This information is crucial for the organizers to arrange insurance coverage for the artwork.
  • In the event of any damage to artworks submitted for on-site judging during transportation or exhibition, the handling of such damage shall be subject to the discretion of the organizers and the insurance company.

Notice

  • Additional materials submitted apart from the submitted artworks will not be returned.
  • In the event that issues relating to plagiarism or the artist’s improper conduct arise after judging, the award or selection may be revoked following a re-evaluation process. Disqualified artworks shall be returned by the organizers after the judging process has been completed.
  • Artworks arriving after the submission period, as notified by the organizers, shall be excluded from the judging process.
  • Removal of artworks during the exhibition is not permitted, and the organizers shall be responsible for displaying submitted artworks.
  • The above conditions are subject to change, and any alterations shall be announced on the organizer’s official website, with participants notified individually by email.
  • Any matters not specified herein shall be subject to the guidelines of the organizers.
